We offer Obedience class, one-on-one training, and boarding while training.

Dog Meets World:

a.k.a. AKC Canine Good Citizen Class

Discover the fun and importance of our AKC Canine Good Citizen Class, also known as ‘Dog Meets World’. This unique course takes your dog’s obedience skills and applies them to real-life situations. Whether you’re preparing for the American Kennel Club CGC test, dreaming of training your dog to be a therapy dog, or simply want to enjoy public outings with your furry friend, this class is both enjoyable and practical! Join our on-leash group course including 6 sessions,  4 adventurous outings. Experience the joy of walking, hiking, window shopping, and even spending time at outdoor restaurants or coffee shops, all with your loyal companion by your side.  Yes, it can be done!

Skills targeted in this course include:

Street/trail etiquette

Moderate and high-level distraction work

Loose leash walking

On-leash greetings with both people and dogs, wait, watch me, leave it, down, and calm behavior around others

Obedience commands

Whether you and your dog are at a busy mall or relaxing at an outdoor restaurant.

The last session will be a practice test for the AKC CGC certification.

The evaluation consists of ten objectives.

  1. Accepting a friendly stranger.
  2. Sitting politely for petting.
  3. Allowing basic grooming procedures.
  4. Walking on a loose leash.
  5. Walking through a crowd.
  6. Sitting and lying down on command and staying in place.
  7. Coming when called.
  8. Reacting appropriately to another dog.
  9. Reacting appropriately to distractions.
  10. Calmly enduring supervised separation from the owner.

CGC test is a requirement for a “therapy” dog. It also can offer you a certification for proof of having a well-behaved dog.

Group training classes are for friendly dogs and their owners. Hart 4 paws use positive training methods and training tools. We do not support the use of aversive training tools such as choke chains, prong collars, or shock collars.

Who is this not course for?

Group training classes are not meant for:

  • Dogs who have growled snapped or bit a person.
  • Dogs who have bitten other animals.
  • Dogs who exhibit aggression or other distracting behavioral issues.
